With Video Consumption Steadily on the Rise, Don’t Miss Out!

Did you know it’s estimated that by 2019, 80 percent of all Internet traffic will be to videos? That’s 64 percent higher than 2014 … and a significant portion of the growth will probably occur in 2016 (Forbes.com). It’s official: if you’re not actively sharing video content on your social media and within your blogs, you’re missing out on some major website traffic.

In fact, in September 2015, 8 billion videos were streamed on Facebook daily in comparison to 4 billion in April, according to the social media giant. Furthermore, Demand Metric found recently that 74 percent of B2B marketers reported that video now converts better than other content types.

Here are some additional fascinating statistics from Cloudswave:

  • 75 million people in US watch videos online everyday
  • Embedded videos on websites can increase traffic up to 55 percent
  • Merely mentioning the word "video" in the subject line of an email can increase open rates by 13 percent

Now that we have you convinced just how important video content is for your business in 2016, where should you start? Between Snapchat, Periscope, Vimeo and Facebook Live, it’s easy to get overwhelmed.

Social media whirlwindFirst, brainstorm what types of video would make the most sense for your target customer. If you’re looking to show off a clothing product or commonly used item, then a short overview video less than 30 seconds would work well. If your product or service needs a lengthy explanation, a longer tutorial would be best. Below are several common types of videos to consider:

  1. Quick product overview
  2. Customer testimonials
  3. Services or product tutorial
  4. Recent event recap
  5. Employee introductions
  6. How-to videos for simple tasks
  7. Interviews with an industry expert

Next, consider which platforms would work best for your customers. For example, if your audience demographic is over the age of 50, Snapchat might not make the most sense for your business as their core demographic is under 30. By doing your research online, you’ll be able to narrow down which sites would work best for your brand. Below are a few video platforms to examine:

  • Snapchat
  • Periscope
  • YouTube
  • Vimeo
  • Katch
