Strategically Attract New Customer Leads with Radio Advertising
If it’s done well, radio advertising can be the medium of imagination. I often compare radio to a book on tape – your mind is left to create its own images and sensations.
When considering radio advertising for your company, the key is to pander to the audiences’ senses. To ensure you’re capturing the listeners’ attention, describe your product, service or event using crystal clear language and play on a variety of the listeners emotions. Rather than simply reciting a laundry list of products you carry in your store, transport listeners outside of their car or workplace and into a world of your making!
Let me give you an example of the effectiveness of creating a vivid picture for a radio listener, just by addressing a particular sense:
Picture a man, around 6 feet tall, with long flowing blonde hair… I bet you already have an image in your mind, even from that short description. Maybe it’s Fabio or Chris Hemsworth. Either way, someone came to your mind’s eye almost immediately.
In radio, it’s best when we work with all five senses to make an unforgettable impression. When you create a super-clear picture for listeners, they tend to listen to your entire message, contact information, and ideally, they consider making a purchase by the time you’ve finished speaking or at least interested in learning more about your business.
Here are a few more examples of how to use the senses to capture your audiences’ attention and nail your next radio ad:
- Tell people to imagine the SMELL of chocolate chip cookies baking in the oven at their grandmother’s house. (I’ll take a dozen!)
- Allow them to HEAR the sounds around them, like birds chirping or the the sizzling of bacon and the pop-pop-pop of popcorn.
- Tell someone about the soft FEEL of a kitten’s fur.
- Describe the delicious TASTE of a pizza on that first bite …. Ouch, the cheese is still too hot!
Whether you’re playing on a listener’s sense of SIGHT, SMELL, SOUND, FEEL or TASTE, the more you can provoke the senses in a radio ad, the more sense-sational results you’ll achieve.
